this is where we're getting married!

it's a simple, quaint little spot on white rock lake where we can say our vows by the water at sunset and then go inside and party.

perfect.

they only had a couple days available in our desired time frame, so march 2nd it is! and since "have you set a date?!" is the thing people start asking you like the SECOND after you get engaged, it's nice to now have an answer.

we spent our 4th of july weekend on lake travis, soaking up some sun and good company. independence day is one of my favorite holidays and it definitely did not disappoint this year. we had such a good time.

i loved this post today over at simple lovely (another great daily read). personally, i'm glad the idea of luxury is evolving past what it used to be into something with a little more soul and meaning. i've thought a lot about this as we begin to make a home together and wrap our heads around planning a wedding. it's more rewarding to save up for something you really love instead of buying a bunch of meaningless crap along the way (which i have been totally guilty of in the past). the goal is to not lose sight of this during the craziness of the next few months.

i was really excited to learn from the new rue issue that cortney and robert novogratz will have a new show on hgtv in july, home by novogratz. these two (and their ridiculously cute 7 kids) are so inspiring to watch. i was hooked on their previous show, 9 by design which aired on bravo. they're known for taking old, dilapidated new york buildings and turning them into beautifully designed spaces (dream job much?). can't wait to see what they come up with this time!

have any of you seen the quotable reese witherspoon in water for elephants? i'm on the fence on whether or not to see it. on one hand, the fashion and cinematography look beautiful, and i have a big girl crush on reese. on the other, i heard it's sad which makes me think bad things happen to the elephants, which i have no interest in watching. i have some issues with the real-life circus because of this exactly, but that's a whole other conversation. i'd love to hear some reviews if anyone has seen it.

i'm going to make "monday workwear" a regular weekly post here. work clothes get a bad wrap and can be a pretty underwhelming. however i don't think that dressing professionally has to mean dressing boring, and life's way too short to wear boring clothes everyday. so i'll scour the web for things that are work appropriate but also have a bit of a creative twist, then i'll throw together a little somethin' somethin' here. admittedly i'll do these posts partly for selfish reasons, as i am trying not to fall into the black-pants-with-favorite-sweater-and-pumps rut myself. but i also hope it provides you all with some inspiration to put together outfits that make you feel good going into the work week. besides, what's better on a mundane monday than a little materialistic indulgence?

my new glasses arrived today! i can't say enough good things about warby parker. if you are on the hunt for some frames you should definitely check them out. you can upload a photo of yourself and try them on virtually, or choose 5 pairs for a home try-on. i had to order two rounds of home try-ons before i found the right ones but it was worth it - it's actually a pretty seamless process. plus, every pair is $95 and for every pair you buy they give one to a person in need.

they have a very pleased customer here. :)

itunes is offering a benefit album featuring 38 tracks from artists including dylan, queen, springsteen, gaga, madonna and norah jones - just to name a few. all proceeds go to the japanese red cross. i can't think of a better way to spend 10 bucks. and if we're being honest, just having the first track in your music library is worth that much and more. do it.

1. learning about this documentary on a cup of jo. what a fascinating guy. watch the trailer here. it comes to dallas april 8th. who's with me?

2. these beautiful plates. i wouldn't eat off of them though, i'd hang them on my wall.

3. helping japan. i like the way so many artists have come forward with great ways to donate, for instance here, here, here and here. then of course you can donate to the red cross and sites like shelter box. and please, please don't forget about japan's pets. you have no excuse that this point, just donate something. it's good for everyone including yourself.

4. this interview with jane herman and her awesome brooklyn digs.

5. this little guy needs to live with me. i also really love these, but they seem a tad overpriced, no?

i managed to spend some time outside this weekend. it was a tad chilly but it's really starting to feel like springtime! walks on the katy trail are the best this time of year. i even met that cute little black kitten who loved the camera. pixie was this close to getting a new little sister. (or brother. who can tell with cats, really?)

but most of the weekend was spent running errands and getting ready for my vacation with the man friend. we are hopping on a jet plane to the florida keys and hopefully checking out of the real world for the next five days. it feels good to be packing a good book and a few swimsuits and not much else.

these are some of my recent thrift store purchases. there is the best little vintage shop close to my apartment named ahab bowen and that's where i found it all. these 4 things combined cost me under $60 and they are all in perfect condition. i was most amazed by the sweater dress - it's tag said it's from the 70's and the fabric looks better than most of the sweaters i've owned for 2 years. crazy, right?

i have such a thing for elephants. the more i learn about them the more intriguing they are. did you know their level of intelligence can include emotions associated with compassion, greif, altruism and self-awareness? also, as adults, they have no known natural predators. and let's be honest can you get any cuter than this? i think not.

new york fashion week came to an end today. i loosely kept track of the events of the week through twitter and a few fashion blogs, and i can honestly say that the streetstyle photos i have seen are more impressive to me than photos from the shows. i guess it's something about real people piecing together real outfits and wearing them in their own, real element. much more relatable than a 6 foot tall model who has had about 20 people working on her hair and makeup, walking down a runway, no? actually, a lot of the women pictured below probably are models but i still think they are a lot more inspiring off the runway.

what are your valentine's day plans? i had the perfect date last night with the sweet boy. the weather was nice enough to have dinner on the patio here, and then we finally saw black swan. people aren't kidding when they say that movie is cray-zay!

tonight i'll be celebrating with some girlfriends over mexican food and margaritas. this is a reincarnated tradition from the days when we were (all) single, and i can't wait!

i know this holiday gets a bad wrap, and sometimes it does disappoint, but i am having a happy one this year. i hope you are too!

super bowl parties: what i would wear

man, it has been a week. i'm sure you are all well aware of the shitty weather combined with super bowl craziness that has hit dallas over the last few days. i've spent the last 4 days working from home and developed a serious case of cabin fever (it's like the shining up in here...it ain't pretty).

you can imagine how happy i was when andrew called and said we got last minute tickets to a super bowl party at the aloft hotel last night. it felt so good to put on some makeup and some clothes that are acceptable to wear in public. in fact, if all was right with the world, i would have thrown on one of the above outfits that i put together here. buuuut, instead i happily made due with what was already in my closet.

so we set out on our adventure, had lots of fun at the party, and when it was time to leave we walked outside into the most beautiful snowfall in downtown dallas. we just don't see it come down like this very often here and it was so cool. andrew trying to find us a cab:

so i finally bit the bullet and got a twitter account. i was very apprehensive at first and i've put it off for so long because i want to be careful about how much time i spend on social networking sites, as i really think they can be all-consuming for some people. obviously it's more important to live your life than tweet about it. however i also think there are healthy ways to engage with these sites and i'm surprised how much i enjoy twitter. i really like getting instantaneous news and updates.

he provides some really good insight on the subject of creativity and how to implement it into your life in a realistic and fulfilling way. it's a really easy read filled with a little humor and a lot of thought-provoking content.

one of my favorite excerpts:
everyone is born creative; everyone is given a box of crayons in kindergarten. then when you hit puberty they take the crayons away and replace them with dry, uninspiring books on algebra, history, etc. being suddenly hit years later with the "creative bug" is just a wee voice telling you, "i'd like my crayons back, please."

last weekend i got to take some photos of my friend's band, the roaming soldiers. they put on a great show full of some down and dirty southern rock and roll.

however, it was probably the most challenging set of photos i've ever taken. definitely a little different than snapping puppies in the park! it was a really good learning experience and i am pretty happy with the way most of them turned out. you can check out the rest on my flickr.

this is a small glimpse into the life of the sartorialist, the man behind the street style blog that has become a phenomenon in the blog world. even if you have no interest in fashion, i think you'll find this small documentary interesting and inspiring.

i like the part at the end where he basically explains his blog as people watching it it's best, because that's exactly what i have always thought it was. it's also probably why so many people are addicted to visiting it everyday. the most amazing thing might be his ability to get total strangers to let him take their photo on the street.

i spent last weekend in norman, ok - one of my favorite places. it's so crazy the moments of nostalgia and memories it brings back. there's really nothing like gameday at ou!

it truly feels like fall there, too. the trees are the prettiest colors of bright red, orange and yellow. i'm kicking myself for not taking more photos of them. it seems like the trees in dallas just turn from green straight to dead.

it was so good to get away and spend time on my old stomping grounds.

1. fingerless gloves. i never understood the purpose of these until i got an iphone. now i'm pretty sure i can't live without them.

2. benefit's POREfessional. this primer is a miracle-worker. it has a silky consistency and makes your pores look non-existent. i'd bathe in this stuff if it wasn't $28 for .75 ounces.

3. NARS velvet lip pencil in cruella. i like that this is a pencil and lipstick all-in-one. i also like that i can wear this with barely any other make-up and still feel dressed up. and it stays on forever.

4. royal apothic perfume. this comes in many scents but kensington garden is my favorite. it's soft and subtle, and it looks real pretty sitting on my vanity.

5. over-sized watch by timex. i needed a gold watch and i like that this one is simple and not flashy. kinda looks vintage, right?

so i'm kind of embarrassed to post about my surprise trip to the last world series game, since i already told you that i'm not really a baseball fan. there are definitely those who are much more deserving of the experience. but, i wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to go, and it was a damn good time.

yeah, the rangers lost, but it was still really cool to be there. i love being in such an energetic atmosphere. and everyone cheered for the giants when they won. i like that.

they came in the mail today. i enjoy buying myself birthday presents. :)

man. little kids are like a force of nature on halloween. it's like someone told them it's the last time they will EVER see a piece of candy. it was so fun to watch little B's enthusiasm and determination to keep up with the big kids. plus, i think she was born to be minnie mouse.

june on the other hand...let's just say this isn't her favorite holiday.

so, i look at A LOT of interior design blogs, pretty much on a daily basis. i spend more time sifting through those sites than i care to admit, actually. it's like a guilty pleasure that other people get from reality tv, ben & jerry's or smoking. although, i think my vice is definitely the healthiest of all of those. at least that's what i tell myself.

anyway...

when i find a photo like this, i realize that maybe all that time i spend sifting isn't a total waste.

you know when you find that perfect haircut or pair of shoes or relationship or whatever it may be, and it just makes you feel like you? that's how this room feels to me. someday i hope my whole house feels like this room.

the wall color in contrast with the creams and whites, with a few wood accents. the mix of modern and traditional. it's comfortable and welcoming while still having a little dose of drama, so it's not boring. i think it's perfect.

and i know i'm a little late with this, because i just watched the finale a couple of days ago, but HOLY CRAP. how great has this season been? i'll be honest, i did not see these events unfolding.

this is my favorite scene...the way peggy barges in, slams the door and lights up a cig is priceless. i freaking love me some peggy and joan.

michelle williams will be starring in my week with marilyn, coming out next year.

what do you think...can she pull this off? i like michelle williams and all, but i'm just not sure. maybe i'm skeptical because there have been so many bad imitations over the years.

but to be fair, those are some very pretty, uniquely appealing shoes to fill.

either way, i am really excited to see it. i think michelle is a great actress, so it will be really interesting to see how she plays this part.

what are your plans this weekend? andrew scored some tickets to the rangers vs. yankees game tonight, and i am pretty pumped. i must have been living under a rock all 26 years of my life, because the fact that the rangers have never made it this far in the play-offs was news to me. i mean, i can watch football all weekend long, but watching baseball on tv kinda makes me want to take a fork to my eyeballs. actually going to the game, on the other hand, is such a great time.

another reason i'm clueless about the rangers is because i was raised by an avid yankees fan. the only baseball cap i have ever owned is a yankees one, passed down to me by (read: stolen from) my dad, and it's perfectly faded and broken in. i already asked andrew if i could wear it tonight, and he just laughed and said "well maybe we can find you a really cute rangers cap at the game."
